A change.org petition is petitioning the Electoral College to cast its ballots for Hillary Clinton, saying President-elect Donald Trump is unfit to serve. WAMC’s Allison Dunne has more on the longshot gambit.
As of early Friday afternoon, the petition was nearing its 3 million signature goal. The petition says that the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots on December 19 and that they can vote for Secretary Hillary Clinton over Trump. Petition supporters say Clinton won the popular vote and should be president. Such supporters include people from the entertainment industry, such as activist Laverne Cox, who tweeted “It's a long shot but desperate times call for desperate measures.” But the transition is already under way. Trump met Thursday with President Obama, saying it was really good meeting as Obama works to ensure a peaceful transfer of power.
