The House of Representatives has adopted a bill concerning the construction of a hydroelectric project in New York.

Republican Congressman Chris Gibson authored the bill that would extend the deadline for the start of construction of the hydroelectric project at the Cannonsville Dam in Delaware County. In 2014, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission granted New York City a two-year license to build the hydroelectric plant at the dam, which is owned by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection. Preliminary work in 2015 found subsurface conditions, necessitating repairs and new analyses of the project to safeguard the structural integrity of the dam and the New York City water supply. Local town supervisors and mayors submitted a letter to Gibson last month seeking congressional approval for the extension.
