NYS Comptroller Issues Fiscal Stress Scores For School Districts

New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is out with his annual fiscal stress scores for school districts, and two in the Hudson Valley show large swings.

This is the third year DiNapoli’s office has assessed and scored the financial stability of school districts. The Rhinebeck Central School District in Dutchess County has gone from virtually no sign of fiscal stress for two years to moderate stress, marking a nearly 57 percent change. Meanwhile, the Peekskill City School District in Westchester County experienced significant fiscal stress in 2013-2014, but not for the last academic year in large part because of the timing of steps taken to finance the settlement of real estate tax assessment claims. The scores are based on the evaluation of 672 school districts with fiscal years ending on June 30, 2015. Here's the report.
