Cargo is flying high but passengers are not, at Stewart Airport. Officials hope the Montreign Casino-Resort, planned for Sullivan County, will improve the passenger numbers when it opens in two years.

Officials of the soon-to-be constructed Montreign Casino-Resort in Sullivan County expect Stewart Airport in eastern Orange County, to play a key role in bringing visitors to their Kiamesha Lake facility.

Empire Resorts Vice President Charles Degliomini briefed the Stewart Airport Commission on Tuesday outlining the amenities of the facility. Construction will begin by the end of the year.

It will include a casino with 100 table games, 2,000 slot machines and private parlor gambling.

“These are very, very high-end amenities that are going attract players from the tri-state region, nationally and from international players,” Degliomini said. As a result, project officials will need international screening, customs and other functions Stewart can provide to bring in those international visitors.

Montreign will also include a 330-room four-star hotel with an indoor waterpark; an entertainment village with everything from family bowling, restaurants, shopping and movie theater.

The project will be built on the site of the former Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake.  It will be part of the larger Adelaar complex which will include the redesigned Monster Golf Course, and a family resort hotel complex.
