A 35-year veteran of the state prison system has been named as the superintendent of Fishkill Correctional Facility in Fishkill.
Robert Cunningham recently served as superintendent at Woodbourne Correctional Facility since 2010, where he oversaw the facility’s implementation of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision with the New York State Civil Liberties Union concerning the appropriate treatment of incarcerated youths.
Cunningham also worked at Green Haven and Otisville correctional facilities.
In his new role, he was charged by the department with ensuring that Fishkill Correctional operates in a safe and effective manner while providing for appropriate programs for all inmates.
Cunningham will review all safety concerns and include discussions with the New York State Correctional Officer and Police Benevolent Association and the Inmate Liaison Committee, which routinely meets with members of the facility’s executive team to present inmates’ concerns.
