Federal regulators have found that workers at the Indian Point nuclear plant responded appropriately to a May 9 transformer fire where some 3,000 gallons of oil spilled into the Hudson River and shut the facility's Unit 3 reactor for 16 days.
It was determined that faulty insulation caused the explosion and fire.
The Journal News says the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued its findings on the fire response and transformer replacement in a quarterly report on the plant's performance between April and the end of June.
The criteria used by NRC inspectors in assessing the plant's response included the fire brigade's performance, the proper use of breathing apparatus, layout of fire hoses, command effectiveness and emergency plan implementation.
A plant spokesperson says the report validated the workers' actions.
