Health Center To Open At A Westchester High School

A family medical center in Westchester County is opening a health center at a local high school. As WAMC’s Allison Dunne explains, there will be no cost to students.

Ossining-based Open Door Family Medical Centers will launch a school-based health center at Ossining High School to provide no-cost health services. The 1,300 students will have access to the services, given parental or guardian permission. Congresswoman Nita Lowey, the Ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, says the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which this week announced that it would provide more than $1.9 million in federal funding to Open Door for operating expenses, informed the organization that it could use funding to expand its school-based health services. Open Door will provide a nurse practitioner with access to a doctor as well as support staff.
