Poll Shows Maloney Leads Hayworth In Tight Race

A Time Warner Cable News/Siena College Research Institute poll released Friday shows an ever tightening race in New York’s 18th Congressional District.

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney leads Republican predecessor Nan Hayworth 49 percent to 44 percent, little changed from the 50 percent to 42 percent lead Maloney had six weeks ago. Siena College poll spokesman Steven Greenberg:

“Whichever campaign does the better job between now and 9 p.m. on Tuesday of identifying their supporters and getting their voters to the polls to make sure they vote, whichever campaign does the better job there, that’s the campaign that’s likely to be celebrating victory late Tuesday night or maybe even early Wednesday morning,” says Greenberg.

He says Maloney continues to have a double digit lead in Orange County and a narrow lead in Dutchess County, however, what had been a narrow lead in Putnam/Westchester Counties for Maloney is now a nine-point lead for Hayworth.
