Hudson Valley Trails Open on National Trails Day

Catskill Mountain Club

Two new hiking trails open Saturday – one in Ulster County, another in Delaware County -- in recognition of National Trails Day.

There will be a community hike on the new trail at Palmer Hill Saturday afternoon. The 3.7-mile trail represents collaboration among the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the Catskill Mountain Club, and the Town of Andes. The trail is on a portion of a 234-acre tract of land that DEP acquired in 2002. In addition to Palmer Hill, the DEP and Catskill Mountain Club plan to complete another trail in Delaware County, on Bramley Mountain in Delhi, later this year. In Ulster County, the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are opening a new trail connecting the Village of Phoenicia to the Catskill High Peaks. It’s the newest section of the Long Path.
