A Hudson Valley-based provider of educational, health and residential services for children and adults with disabilities is on the receiving end of a federal grant to expand one of its services.

Sullivan County-based The Center for Discovery will use the nearly $85,000 grant to develop a telemedical home network program, which will consist of a plan to reach individuals with severe disabilities in rural areas. The Center for Discovery is addressing the shortage of specialty care, primary care, and mental health professionals and is the lead agency for this rural health planning grant using telemedicine to provide greater access to health care for people with special needs across a vast area of upstate New York. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, in announcing the grant, says the funding is allocated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Program.
