NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) and (WAMC) — Environmental groups concerned about expanded crude oil transportation along the Hudson River are holding a forum Monday evening for local residents.
Riverkeeper and Scenic Hudson are holding an informational session in Newburgh about what they see as elevated crude oil risks in the Hudson Valley. Global Partners of Waltham, Massachusetts has proposed expansion of a rail terminal in New Windsor. The company also wants to expand its operation at the Port of Albany. State regulators are seeking more information related to Global Partners' shipments of crude oil from North Dakota and western Canada to coastal refineries. Global Partners says it has consistently worked cooperatively with regulators and will continue to do so. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo April 30th wrote to President Obama requesting immediate action to enhance rail safety, hours before a crude oil train derailed and exploded in Lynchburg, Virginia. Monday evening’s (5/5) session begins at 6 at the Newburgh Free Library.
