Orange Legislature Supports Casinos

Christopher Chappelear

In New York, the Orange County legislature Thursday supported a resolution for the license approval and operation of casinos in its county.

The vote was 20-to-1. Republican Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus says the overwhelming support for the resolution sends the message that the potential for gaming as an economic catalyst across the region is great. He describes the casino proposals for Orange County as coming from Class A casino companies.

“Not any of these Johnny-come-latelies or fly-by-night operations,” says Neuhaus. “These are the real deal, and we are in 100 percent in play to land one in Orange County.”

The legislature’s resolution of support is not required for casino bidders. However, support from the municipality for which a casino is proposed, such as from a town board, is required. Without this support, the proposal for that location is no longer viable.
