Genting To Detail Casino Proposal In Orange County

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The operator of the Resorts World Casino New York City at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens has released details of a resort casino it is hoping to build in Orange County, and will present its plans during a Town of Tuxedo board meeting Monday evening.

Genting Group says it is proposing a 238-acre resort on the site of the Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center at Sterling Forest that will include a casino, two hotels, restaurants and facilities for year-round outdoor recreation, including skiing. The Route 17A property has long hosted the New York Renaissance Faire. Malaysia-based Genting says the project would create more than 2,000 jobs. Developers hoping to win one of four upstate casino licenses paid application fees to the state last week. Twenty-two fees of $1 million each were submitted, and five applications are now in play for Orange County. Last week, the Newburgh Town Board unanimously approved a resolution in support of the development of a casino proposed for its area - Saratoga Casino and Raceway’s estimated $670 million Hudson Valley Casino and Resort.
