Police Call Dutchess Deaths A Murder-Suicide

New York State police say the fatal shootings in Dutchess County earlier this week were a murder-suicide.

Police say a father shot his wife and two sons before turning the gun on himself. Police say they found the body of the mother, 43-year-old Sarwat Lodhi Friday afternoon off Route 376 in Wappinger, after having found the bodies of the father and two sons Thursday morning in Pleasant Valley. Police had found the bodies of the father - 49-year-old Abbas Lodhi – and one of the sons - 9-year-old Zain Lodhi - inside a vehicle at the A & P plaza in Pleasant Valley Thursday morning. They then found 13-year-old Mugthba Lodhi in the family’s residence in Pleasant Valley. Police say all died of gunshot wounds apparently from the same gun, which police recovered from inside the vehicle. Police say the family had been living in Goshen, in Orange County, until moving to Pleasant Valley about two months ago. Abbas Lodhi owned a pharmacy in Hyde Park, which recently closed. Police say there was no note, and they do not have a motive.
