Newburgh’s Budget On Target With Spending Freeze

NEWBURGH – City finances in Newburgh are a lot better now than they were just a few years ago and Mayor Judy Kennedy credits that with continued belt tightening and holding the line on spending.

To keep it on track, the city has a spending freeze in place, not laying out anything more than they have to.

“Capital projects will continue,” Kennedy said.  “Other things will continue that have already started, but we are going to put in a spending freeze to make sure that we stay on target because we really have a commitment our taxpayers not to raise taxes.”

The mayor said the city plans to stay within the two percent state-mandated tax cap in the 2014 budget.
