A New York congressman will present Army medals to a World War Two veteran in Dutchess County Wednesday afternoon.
Republican Congressman Chris Gibson will present the medals to former prisoner of war James Murphy, at the Vassar-Warner Home for Senior Citizens in Poughkeepsie. Gibson, a retired Army officer, will present Murphy with the Bronze Star medal; Purple Heart; Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation; American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with three bronze stars; World War II Victory medal; and others. Murphy was born in Amenia, in Dutchess County, and was raised in Brewster, in Putnam County.
