NY, VT Congressmen Introduce Bill to Block Military Aid To Syria

Congressmen from New York and Vermont are among those introducing bipartisan legislation to block both military aid to Syrian rebel groups and U.S. support of military operations in Syria.

The legislation would block such assistance until authorized by a joint resolution of Congress. Republican Congressional Representatives Chris Gibson of New York, an Army veteran, and Michele Bachmann of Minnesota joined with Democratic Representatives Peter Welch of Vermont and Rick Nolan of Minnesota to introduce the bill that would continue to allow for non-lethal humanitarian assistance to be provided to the Syrian people, but would require the administration to report to Congress every 90 days detailing the assistance being provided to groups, organizations, movements and individuals in Syria. Similar bipartisan legislation has been introduced in the Senate, including by Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy.
