Culinary Institute Receives Grant To Help Farmers Impacted By Storms

Two New York congressional representatives have announced a grant that will help an acclaimed culinary institute in the Hudson Valley develop a training and workforce development center.

Republican Congressman Chris Gibson and Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney say the $3.4 million economic development award to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park will help the CIA in creating a training center for farmers impacted by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. The Hudson Valley Food and Beverage Alliance at the Marriott Pavilion on the CIA campus will operate the Training and Workforce Development Center, and provide farms and agri-businesses in the Hudson Valley with the resources, training, services, and support necessary to recover from the natural disasters, sustain their current farming operations, as well as expand and create economic opportunities. The total project cost is $5.8 million.
