Hudson Valley School District To Receive Emergency Aid

New York State’s budget contains emergency aid for an Ulster County school district.

The Marlboro Central School District will see $4.19 million in aid after facing a budget crisis in the wake of the bankruptcy sale and closure of a nearby power plant. Republican State Senator Bill Larkin and Democratic Assemblyman Frank Skartados, whose districts include Marlboro, say both the Danskammer Generating Station, near Newburgh, and its parent Dynegy were two major taxpayers to the district. Both legislators lobbied on behalf of the school district to secure the funding needed to keep the district on its feet. Danskammer was rendered inoperable as a result of Superstorm Sandy, and is to be retired, and sold. Dynegy’s Roseton power plant is also being sold.
