Slated for closure in June, Burdett Birth Center in Troy will remain open with new state funding

Saland Wins Difficult Primary

State Senator Stephen Saland of Poughkeepsie has been declared the winner in the Republican primary election, defeating Conservative Neil DiCarlo when all of the absentee ballots were tallied. He won by 107 votes.

DiCarlo will appear on the Conservative line in the November election along with Democrat Terry Gipson.

The new 41st State Senate District includes portions of Dutchess and Putnam counties.

Saland said the focus of his campaign will continue to be on the need for private sector job creation, lower taxes and less government spending. He said he would continue to push for incentives to attract and maintain business in the Hudson Valley.

“For the last two years, we have successfully lowered taxes, provided a property tax cap and reduced state spending and as a result, New York is heading in the right direction.” He pointed to New York being included in the top 10 in the nation for growth, productivity and livability in a report from the US Chamber of Commerce.
