Mass. Senate Candidates Spend $68 Million

The race for US Senate in Massachusetts has shattered previous political spending records in Massachusetts.   WAMC’s Paul Tuthill reports

The campaigns of Republican Senator Scott Brown and Democratic Challenger Elizabeth Warren have been spending at a furious rate. A combined total of $68 million as of Oct 17th.   Political consultant Tony Cignoli of Springfield notes that final campaign finance reports are due until well after the election.

Warren, a first time candidate for elected office has raised more money than any other challenger for a Congressional seat in the country, collecting more than $38 million dollars.. Brown raised about $10 million less, but had  $13 million left from the 2010 special election.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
