VT GOP Gov. Candidate Proposes 'Business in a Box'

Republican gubernatorial candidate Randy Brock wants to create what he calls a "business in a box" program that would link unemployed Vermonters with business ideas that would be funded by private money.

Brock outlined his proposal Monday at a Williston business as part of a package of ideas that he said would help spur economic development and create more jobs in the state.

The "business in a box" proposal would use people who are underemployed or underemployed to run the small businesses. Brock didn't offer specific job suggestions, but said they would be packaged like franchises with business plans so the entrepreneur could run them.

Brock, a state senator from Franklin County and a former state auditor, is challenging incumbent Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin in the November election.
