Toni Morrison exhibit unveiling at UAlbany
Join us for the unveiling of a new permanent exhibit honoring Nobel and Pulitzer Prize–winning novelist Toni Morrison to take place 10 a.m. on Friday, February 13. The public is invited to attend this celebration of Morrison’s enduring influence.
The exhibit unveiling will feature brief remarks by UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez, NYS Writers Institute Opalka Endowed Director Paul Grondahl, Janell Hobson, Professor in the UAlbany’s Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, along with additional speakers to be announced.
Following the exhibit unveiling, the UAlbany English Department will host two events including a “Curating Black History” roundtable at 11 a.m. in the Campus Center West Multi Purpose Room featuring Autumn Womack, professor at Princeton University, curator of the Princeton exhibit, “Toni Morrison: Sites of Memory,” and author of The Matter of Black Living: The Aesthetic Experiment of Racial Data, 1880-1930 (2022), and Dorothy Berry, archivist and author of The House Archives Built & Other Thoughts on Black Archival Possibilities.
Also, the public is invited to participate in the Frederick Douglass Day Transcribe a Thon to take place from noon to 3 p.m. That event will also take place in the Campus Center West Multi Purpose Room. This community transcription event honors Douglass’s birthday and supports the preservation of Black history. Participants should bring laptops or tablets. No pre knowledge required.
