The Invention of the Bible
The Invention of the Bible
Hamilton at The Other Side presents Ian Mills, Professor of Classics and Religion.
Wednesday, April 17, 7:30 pm at The Other Side, 2011 Genesee St., Utica
The Bible is an anthology of books. Each book written centuries apart by diverse persons in various languages has its own origin story. But the Bible too had to be invented.
Wherefrom the idea of a closed corpus of uniquely authoritative texts? Professor Mills tells a story of evolving information technologies, heresy, apocrypha, and the invention of the Bible by Jews and Christians in the second century CE.
The talk is free and open to the public.
