Octavo Singers present Holst's The Cloud Messenger and Brahams Schicksalslied
Octavo Singers present Holst's The Cloud Messenger and Brahams Schicksalslied
Truly a hidden gem of symphonic choral literature, Holst’s The Cloud Messenger is a 45-minute masterpiece based on some of the most beautiful imagery of classical India by the poet Kalidasa. Through Holst’s own evocative English translation, it tells the story of a genie exiled from paradise who, beseeching the clouds to send a message of love to his soulmate in heaven, weaves a fairytale epic of passion and devotion. Together with Brahms’ Schicksalslied, his ‘mini-requiem’, this romantic and sweeping program will be sure to stir the soul.
