Mindful Drawing: Embodying the Shape and Rhythm of Sound
This mindful drawing class invites you to immerse yourself in the shapes and rhythms of sound and playfully follow your imagination. Using pencil, crayons or pastels you’ll be led on a sonic journey by singer/songwriter/visual artist JoAnne Spies that strengthens your intuition, calls forth imagination and frees up your inner critic.
The class will include a brief meditation, breath awareness and musical prompts. No drawing experience is needed.

About JoAnne Spies:
JoAnne Spies is a singer, songwriter and visual artist who collaborates with her audience in rhythm and sound explorations. A faculty member of Community Access to the Arts, has headed the Art Cart program since 2001, bringing music, movement and poetry to six Integritus Healthcare settings, including two memory care units. A Remo Drum Health Rhythms facilitator and graduate of MfP’s four-year music improv program, JoAnne took part in Deb Koffman’s mindful drawing classes for many years. She has written community-based performances/guided tours: ‘Karaoke Confession’, ‘Trust’ and ‘Courage’ that were performed at the Norman Rockwell Museum. Awards include a composer and visual arts fellowship to the Millay Colony, a grant from the Westfield Watershed and Marmalade Productions to write songs for “Watershed Waltz,” an eco-friendly production that toured the schools, and MCC grants for the CD of her one-woman show “Me & Melville.” More info can be found at movingsound.org
