Magic Lantern Show (Kids)

Magic Lantern Show (Kids)

The magic lantern: The conjuring machine that peers into the past

Magic lantern performers Dawn Elliott and Joel Schlemowitz present the most popular of Victorian entertainments: The magic lantern show. The glowing images of painted and projected glass slides were experienced by Marcel Proust on his childhood bedroom wall, but the experience is unfamiliar today.

In the afternoon at the Widow Jane Mine, a children’s program of magic lantern projections will include fairy tales, the story of The Educated Cats, animated effects, and an introduction to optics and illusion. This show is supported by the Rosendale Library.

Elliott and Schlemowitz, magic lanternists have received awards from the Victorian Society NY and the Magic Lantern Society UK for their presentations and performances.
