Land Camp: Field & Grassland Management, Part One

Land Camp: Field & Grassland Management, Part One

This summer, CLC is hosting a series of programs where participants can learn more about and try land management techniques in a supportive environment so that you can feel comfortable implementing them at home! This series of workshops is ideal for those who are already actively managing their land, those who would like to get started, and those interested in learning more about how CLC manages the properties we care for.

This first workshop at Ooms will focus on field and grassland management practices, led by speakers Patrick Knapp, CLC Public Lands Manager, and Ben Nickley, President and Executive Director of the Berkshire Bird Observatory. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about healthy fields and grasslands, and how techniques like livestock grazing can positively impact regionally-rare grassland birds like the bobolink and Eastern meadowlark.

What’s involved: This event will include walking approximately two-miles over grassy and muddy terrain on the Pond Loop, Meadowlark, and Monarch trails, with frequent stops to discuss grassland bird habitat and land management. The event will include going off trail for .1-miles over uneven terrain.

Packing list: Water, weather appropriate clothing and footwear, and a way to take notes (notebook, smart phone).

What not to bring: Please no dogs.
