An Enchanting Evening of Music Awaits
On Saturday, June 7th at 7:00 pm, the Southfield Church will open its doors to the 9th Season of Music, an evening promising captivating melodies and a celebration of artistic excellence. Soprano Claire Galloway and pianist Manon Hutton-DeWys will bring an enchanting program featuring an exquisite selection of works by Grieg, Sibelius, Poulenc, Berg and more.
The 9th Season of Music is proudly funded in part by the New Marlborough Cultural Council, the Mass Cultural Council, and the dedicated members of The Sostenuto Circle, whose commitment to fostering cultural vibrancy ensures this concert series continues to enrich the community.
Admission to the concert is entirely free, allowing all to experience this artistic evening. A retiring collection will be taken to benefit the artists as a gesture of appreciation for their talent and dedication.

Claire Galloway
Scottish-American soprano Claire Galloway’s theatricality covers the gamut of “palpable pain” and “splendid, funny moments” (B.I.T.R.). This season she is a featured artist with Baltimore Musicales, Emmanuel Episcopal’s Tuesdays at Six, and Wilmington Concert Opera. She recently premiered a song cycle featuring women of Norse mythology, Mothers of Ragnarok, written for her by Erik Franklin – and winning the virtual SongSlam competition with the first piece.
A Fellow from 2022 – 2024 at the Nordic Song Festival in Trollhättan, Sweden, 2022 Brown Loranger Fellow at Songfest, and 2021 Fellow at the Ravinia Steans Music Institute, as well as a winner of the NYC SongSlam, Ms. Galloway is known for her innovative recital programing with a special interest in French and Nordic repertoire as well as commissioning new works for voice and chamber ensemble. Her Grieg & Nordic Fairytales virtual recital was be presented by Wilmington Concert Opera in January 2024.
In recent seasons she has been featured by Market Square Concert Series, Baltimore Musicales, Bach in Baltimore, Andersen’s Nightingale, and Mid-Atlantic Symphony. Having performed with Opera Henriette, Lidal North in Oslo, Saltworks Opera, Baltimore Concert Opera, Savannah Opera, Bel Cantanti Opera, and Stillpointe Theatre, she has presented operatic roles by Mozart, Poulenc, Massenet, Purcell, and Bernstein, as well as premiered roles in works by Arnold Saltzman, Steven Crino, Jonathan Dove, and Frances Pollock. She is currently based in Baltimore, Maryland USA where she is a professor of diction and repertoire courses at the Peabody Conservatory. For the 2023 – 2025 years she will be Artist in Residence in Music at Bard College teaching voice and coaching the opera workshop production.
Manon Hutton-DeWys
American pianist Manon Hutton-DeWys has long been earning praise and recognition for her performances of classical and modern music. In Musical America, Christian Carey wrote: “Hutton-DeWys did an admirable job creating legato lyricism in a solo line that resides amidst a tremendously active accompaniment. Her sensitive dynamic shadings and subtle use of rubato demonstrated an artist possessing a great deal of promise.” Dr. Hutton-DeWys has performed in some of classical music’s best-known venues, including Weill and Zankel Halls at Carnegie Hall, and the Salle Cortot at the École Normale de Musique in Paris. She has also appeared at Symphony Space, Bargemusic, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Steinway Hall, the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, Northeastern and Tufts Universities, and The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, home to radio station WNYC.
Dr. Hutton-DeWys holds degrees from the City University of New York Graduate Center, Mannes College of Music, Bard College, and Bard College at Simon’s Rock. Her research, for which she received a 2017 Elebash Research Grant, focuses on early twentieth-century American music. A native of New York’s beautiful Hudson River Valley, Hutton-DeWys is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and Professor of Applied Piano at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and the Bard Academy. She formerly served on the faculty of the Bard College Conservatory Preparatory Division, Lehman College, and Greenwich House Music School, and on the Executive Board of the Piano Teachers’ Congress of New York.
