Artist Tour: I SPY! Walter Wick’s Hidden Wonders
Explore the fascinating new exhibition, I SPY! Walter Wick’s Hidden Wonders, with the artist himself and NRM Chief Curator Stephanie Haboush Plunkett. Hear how Wick’s early childhood love of play and his early career as a studio photographer led to his breakthrough as a children’s book illustrator at age 38. Wick will reveal his step-by-step process of photographing elaborate arrangements of objects or dioramas he creates by hand. Learn why Wick considers his process to be one of building a picture rather than simply taking a photograph. Plunkett will expand the discussion of Wick’s work in relation to the history of illustration and to Norman Rockwell’s photographic illustration Closing a Summer Cottage (1957) also on view in the exhibition.
NRM Shop will be open and Walter Wick will be available to sign books after the program. Limited space: reservations recommended.
