The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the county correctional facility.
Authorities say at about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, a corrections officer discovered 51-year-old Michael Hands of Greenwich, New York, unresponsive during a routine check. The officer dispatched for help and rendered aid until EMS arrived. Hands was transported to Saratoga Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hands was scheduled to be sentenced in Saratoga County Court Thursday on charges related to sexual conduct with a child.
A defrocked Catholic priest, Hands pleaded guilty earlier this year. An autopsy has been scheduled.
