theREP Gains Production Facility

Capital Repertory Theatre in downtown Albany and Proctors have announced the purchase of the former Gomez Electrical Contracting building for use as a production facility.

Officials say putting theREP’s production under a roof it owns makes sense. The arts organization, now run by Proctors, announced Friday it is buying the Gomez building, which sits less than a half-mile from theREP and has more than 30,000 square feet of work and storage space. Until now, theREP has rented production facilities from The Egg at the Empire State Plaza. The organization says the purchase will save theREP money and could help the company become an economic anchor on the North Pearl Street corridor. Plans call for the theatre’s technical staff to build, repair and store all set pieces and scenic elements in the Gomez building, along with offices for the production team
