Two people have been taken to the hospital as a precaution after a crude oil spill at the Port of Albany.
The New York Department of Environmental Conservation says about 400 gallons of crude oil spilled Tuesday from a portable tank being used as a crew affiliated with Global Partners cleaned a large storage tanks.
Officials say the spill appears to have been caused by a broken valve.
The two workers were sprayed with oil during the spill. Officials believe they were not badly injured.
New York allows oil shipments of nearly 3 billion gallons a year by train to the Port of Albany. It's then shipped by train or barge on the Hudson River to refineries in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
DEC says it "is conducting a thorough investigation of a crude oil tank spill at the Global facility at the Port of Albany. The spill did not impact the Hudson River in any way and there is minimal soil contamination. DEC remains committed to working with the Port of Albany and Global to ensure that safety protocols are strictly adhered to and will determine if further enforcement action is warranted.”
