Albany, NY – In today's Academic Minute, Dr. Edward Wasserman of Washington and Lee University reveals why poverty and the poor are often inaccurately portrayed in the media.

Edward Wasserman is the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation professor of journalism ethics at Washington and Lee University. He writes and speaks widely on matters related to professional rights and wrongs, technological change, and media ownership and control. His academic specialties include plagiarism, source confidentiality, and conflict of interest. He is on the editorial advisory board of The Journal of Mass Media Ethics and writes a biweekly column on the media for The Miami Herald. He holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics.
