Albany, NY – Dr. Stieg talks to Stephen Paget, physician-in-chief at the Hospital for Special Surgery's Department of Medicine. Dr. Paget leads the world's largest department on rheumatology, the treatment of muscles, bones and joints. Differentiated from orthopedic surgeons by an emphasis on treating inflammations and irritations in these areas (like Lyme Disease), rheumatology has come a long way in only the last 20 years, and Dr. Paget discusses the advances that have been made, the role of pharmaceutical companies in developing new drugs, and the role of the federal government. He also warns against a possible halt in the progress this field has made as funding dries up. (Replay of show #010 Air Date: 11/21/06)
