Red Hook, NY – Ever since last month's threat by the U.S. Justice Department to sue New York state for failing to meet the Help America Vote Act deadline, elections officials and lawmakers have been working feverishly to get in compliance. A key provision of the act is to replace lever machines with either the Paper Ballot Optical Scan System or Direct Recording Electronic machines known as DRE.
The outcome has some people in the Mid-Hudson region very concerned.
