WAMC 1400 AM will be off of the air Sept. 29 and 30.

Programming Notes: October 2019

It’s officially light jacket weather. We’ve greeted some cool days with a few final hot ones holding on; but as the coffee shops, storefronts and trees have announced, fall with all its colors and flavors has arrived (and so has our October Fund Drive!).

Fall also means an uptick in political news with another election season looming On Oct. 15, WAMC will broadcast live coverage of the fourth Democratic presidential debates (and possibly also on Oct. 16, based on the number of candidates). More details to come.

Our October Fund Drive starts on the 21st, but the Locked Box is already open! You can help us reach our goal and shorten the drive by visiting our pledge page, saying "Yes, I support WAMC and I'm putting something in today," and donating before the drive begins.

This month on Person, Place, Thing host Randy Cohen will speak with Michael Pollan, Signe Nielsen, Tensie Whelan and Massimo Pigliucci about their favorite topics. Airing Fridays at 10:30 p.m.

Coming up at The Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio: The 4th annual New York State International Film Festival is a 2-day festival celebrating local, national and international short films including experimental films, dramas, comedies, documentaries, horror, animation and action. The festival takes place Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.-Oct. 12 at 11: p.m.

Presented in 5.1 Surround, The Rochmon Record Club will converge to listen and learn about The Beatles’ 11th album “Abbey Road” at its 50th Anniversary, with a re-release and remixed version of "Abbey Road" (by Giles Martin – George’s son); and we will end the month with an evening with Eilen Jewell Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. More events and all tickets are available for purchase online at https://www.thelinda.org/events/.

This Month on The Academic Minute we’ll feature university takeover weeks by the University of Richmond and Butler University.  They’ll feature topics such as healthy lifestyles changes, tolerance on Facebook and how to preserve our National Parks in a warming world. We’ll also hear segments during October on Gentelligence, fast fashion, life satisfaction and how virtual reality interviews can help those with intellectual disabilities. Tune in every Monday-Friday at 7:30 a.m. and 3:56 p.m. to hear the latest cutting-edge research from the academy.  https://academicminute.org/
