Vermont Republican Governor Phil Scott told reporters outside his polling place that he voted for former Vice President Joe Biden.

Scott, who is running for a third two-year term against Democrat and Progressive Lieutenant Governor David Zuckerman, said it is the first time he has voted for a Democrat for president.

"I didn't support President Trump. I wasn't going to vote for him," Scott said. "But then I came to the conclusion that it wasn't enough for me to just not vote. I had to vote against. So, again, I had to put country over party, which again wasn't an easy thing to do in some respects."

In Massachusetts, Governor Charlie Baker, a Republican who has often criticized President Trump, will not be one of the commonwealth’s presidential voters.

"I blanked it," he said.
