Bernardo wants all levels of government on same budget timetable

KINGSTON – Ulster County Legislature Chairwoman Terry Bernardo does not necessarily believe the state’s two percent tax cap is bad for local governments.

What is impeding them is the fact that not all governments are on the same budget clock, and that should be changed in the new year, Bernardo said.

“We are finding out that the towns are required by law to submit their budget before the county and every while unfunding too many times; I would like to see that switched,” Bernardo said. “Right now Monroe County and Westchester County, their towns go before the county and I would like to see Ulster county included in that and perhaps the entire rest of the state.”

Bernardo said the towns are trying to finalize their budgets under the current calendar without knowing exactly what they can expect from other sources.
