WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the top-seed Rangers opened their first-round series with a win…

Last night in New York, Brian Boyle's wrist shot broke the game open, as the Rangers breezed past the Senators 4-2.  Sound courtesy of the NHL.  The two tangle in Game 2 tomorrow.

In Boston, Chris Kelly scored on a long slapshot just over a minute into overtime to give the Bruins a series-opening 1-0 win over the Capitals.  Sound courtesy of NESN. Game 2 is tomorrow.

In Phoenix, Martin Hanzal scored 9 ½ minutes into overtime, as the Coyotes took the series opener from the Blackhawks 3-2.  Sound courtesy of TSN.

In St. Louis, it took more than 83 minutes of hockey, but Martin Havlat’s goal in double OT gave the Sharks a 3-2 win over the Blues.  Sound courtesy of TSN.

Tonight, four more NHL playoff games are scheduled, including the Devils and Panthers series opener from Florida.

To the NBA, Chicago downed Miami 96-86 in OT, San Antonio topped Memphis 107-97, Dallas rolled over Golden State 112-103, the Clippers routed Minnesota 95-82, and Detroit blasted Charlotte 109-85.

In NFL news, the Saints have named Joe Vitt interim head coach, despite his facing a six-game regular-season suspension for his role in the club's bounty system.  Head coach Sean Payton has been suspended for the entire 2012 season.

To baseball, yesterday in the American League, Detroit hammered Tampa Bay 7-2, Minnesota outlasted the Angels 10-9, and Texas took down Seattle 5-3.

Over to the NL, San Francisco doubled up Colorado 4-2, Philadelphia dumped Miami 3-1, Washington got by Cincinnati 3-2, the Cubs pounded Milwaukee 8-0, the Dodgers dropped Pittsburgh 3-2, and Arizona held off San Diego 3-1.

In other baseball news, sources say the Indians have reached an agreement with former Red Sox and Yankees outfielder Johnny Damon on a one year deal.
