Boston, MA – The Massachusetts Attorney General says mortgage related problems are now the number one consumer complaint her office receives. WAMC's Paul Tuthill reports...
The number of complaints having to do with mortgages and foreclosures filed with the consumer affairs division of the Massachusetts Attorney General's office quadrupled over the last two years to reach nearly a thousand complaints in 2011.
Foreclosures fell in Massachusetts last year, but the Hampden County Register of Deeds Donald Ashe says it was just a lull, as lenders straighten out legal issues related to the controversial practice of robo-signing.
"The crisis is far from over," says Ashe.
Attorney General Martha Coakley, in a statement said resolving the foreclosure crisis is the single most important think that can be done to restore the economy.
