2012 Tanglewood Preview

Pittsfield, MA – The 2012 season will celebrate the past 75 years of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood, and introduce Tanglewood to new audiences with modern technologies. In addition to performances and events Tanglewood will be introducing new digital initiatives. Artistic Administrator Tony Fogg says that this year Tanglewood will be by exploring it's extensive performance archives.

Starting on June 20th 75 archival digital streams - one per day - will be released throughout the Tanglewood Season. The streams will contain archival Tanglewood performances from the past 75 years including those from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, and Fellows of the Tanglewood Music Center.

Online listeners will be also be able to access digital streams of Tanglewood's performances and Masters Classes. Tom Rolfs is the Principal Trumpet at the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, and also serves as one of Tanglewood's Master Educators.

Managing Director of the BSO Mark Volpe explains that Tanglewood's advancements through its new web platform are a way how Tanglewood will continue to adapt and evolve.

This year Tanglewood will also recreate two performances from the 1937 opening Season. On July 6th the Boston Symphony Orchestra will play an all Beethoven Opener, and July 21st will play host to an all Wagner Program.

Performances at Tanglewood this summer will also include James Taylor, Yo-Yo Ma and his Silk Road Ensemble, the Mark Morris Dance Group, Chris Botti, John Williams, and others. Eight world premiers will be hosted this summer, featuring new works by emerging composers and composers with long ties to Tanglewood.

In addition to performance, Tanglewood will be hosting three formal discussions this summer including a Critic's Conference, a focus on Technology in Music, and a focus on Film Music as a genre.
