Springfield, MA – Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, who won praise for leading his city in the aftermath of the devastating June 1st tornadoes, was easily reelected to a new four year term. WAMC's Paul Tuthill reports...
Sarno called his victory a resounding vote of confidence...
"And I promise you I will not let you down," said Sarno. "I will continue to work this job 24/7. I am so honored and privileged to be your mayor, and we get right back to work tomorrow."
Sarno, who defeated city council president Jose Tosado by a three to one margin, announced plans to donate five thousand dollars from his campaign funds to tornado rebuilding efforts.
Incumbent mayors also won new terms in Agawam, Chicopee, and Easthampton, but in Holyoke, the incumbent, Elaine Pluta lost to Alex Morse, who at age 22, will be the youngest mayor in Holyoke's history, and one of the youngest mayors ever in Massachusetts.
