North Adams, MA – In North Adams, Massachusetts, preliminary results showed incumbent Mayor Richard Alcombright securing a second two-year term. WAMC'S Patrick Donges reports.
Results reported Tuesday night had Alcombright topping City Council President Ronald Boucher by about 1,000 votes.
Alcombright defeated John Barrett in 2009, ending his 25 year run as mayor, the longest mayoral tenure in the state's history. Last night, Alcombright said while he hopes to run again, he did not aspire to a quarter-century term.
"We're trying to set a direction and a course in this city and trying to move the city forward and we're going to do that for another couple of terms probably and then pass the torch. I'm a firm believer in keeping ideas fresh and moving on."
