Boston, MA – Massachusetts Republican Senator Scott Brown says the congress cannot raise the debt ceiling without also making spending cuts. WAMC's Paul Tuthill reports...
Brown believes a bipartisan agreement is possible before the federal government bumps into the debt ceiling later this summer.
"We're hopeful that by then we'll have a plan," says Brown. "I know the Vice President and the leadership are working together with our input to come up realistic solutions that can deal with, not only entitled issues, but also with the debt and deficit issues."
Brown says no one wants a government shutdown, or worse... a default on the Treasury's debt. House Republicans are scheduled to meet with President Obama Wednesday, a day after a scheduled vote on a bill to raise the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion, without spending cuts.
