Open Forum: Dannemora Prison Break

Pat Bradley/WAMC

Search teams are back in the woods of northern New York looking for two convicted murderers who broke out of a maximum-security prison a week and a half ago.

More than 800 law enforcement officers are searching for David Sweat and Richard Matt and New York State police say they've received more than 1,000 leads - but have not turned up the killers.

The fact is that the two murderers could be anywhere. What’s your theory? Are they still close to home?

Dr. Alan Chartock is professor emeritus at the University at Albany. He hosts the weekly Capitol Connection series, heard on public radio stations around New York. The program, for almost 12 years, highlighted interviews with Governor Mario Cuomo and now continues with conversations with state political leaders. Dr. Chartock also appears each week on The Media Project and The Roundtable and offers commentary on Morning Edition, weekdays at 7:40 a.m.
