Vox Pop : New York State Government Transparency with Robert Freeman : 7/24/12

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has come under increasing scrutiny for practices that appear to contrast his campaign pledge of historic transparency.

Last week, it was reported that Cuomo does not use email for official correspondence, relying instead on proprietary blackberry pin-to-pin messages, which leave no paper trail.

Sunday, the Times Union reported that Cuomo aides removed several documents from the state archives related to a freedom of information request by the newspaper.

Today, the New York Times reports that the Cuomo administration has restricted access to his archived files from his time as A.G. related to the ‘Trooper-gate’ scandal.

Joining us on this edition of Vox Pop is Robert Freeman, executive director of the New York State Committee on Open Government, the one-of-a-kind state agency that is tasked with providing advice and opinions on the interpretation and implementation of the state’s Freedom of Information Law, Open Meetings Law and Personal Privacy Protection Law. WAMC’s Alan Chartock hosts.
