Vox Pop : Osama bin Laden’s Death One Year Later with Dr. Richard Pfau : 5/2/12

It has been one year since Osama bin Laden, orchestrator of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, was killed at the hands of U.S. Navy Seals in Pakistan.

The nighttime raid on bin Laden’s compound further strained U.S. ties with Pakistani officials, who were not made aware that a U.S. operation would be taking place in the country. Viewed as an important U.S. ally in the region, Pakistan has also been the site of what has been described as a proxy war on suspected terrorists being fought by unmanned U.S. drone aircraft.

U.S. goodwill in the region has been further strained by events in Syria and Iran, where protestors have been put down violently for protesting against those regimes.

Joining us on this edition of Vox Pop to discuss these issues is Dr. Richard Pfau, professor of U.S. diplomatic history at the State University of New York at Albany. An air force veteran who served in Iran, he has taught, published and spoken on national security, diplomacy, Iran, and Islam. WAMC’s Alan Chartock hosts.
