Yiddish Book Center - Yiddish Literature Translation

As we have been hearing, The Yiddish Book Center has been working to tell the whole Jewish story by rescuing, translating and disseminating Yiddish books and that broaden understanding of modern Jewish identity.

Given that a main goal of the center is to translate Yiddish literature into English, we meet Sebastian Schulman - the Translation Projects Coordinator at the Yiddish Book Center. An alum of the Yiddish Book Center's Steiner Summer Yiddish Program, he began learning Yiddish in 2004 and is a published literary translator.

Sebastian is also a PhD Candidate in Jewish History at Indiana University and teaches courses at Hampshire and Smith Colleges.

Dr. Alan Chartock is professor emeritus at the University at Albany. He hosts the weekly Capitol Connection series, heard on public radio stations around New York. The program, for almost 12 years, highlighted interviews with Governor Mario Cuomo and now continues with conversations with state political leaders. Dr. Chartock also appears each week on The Media Project and The Roundtable and offers commentary on Morning Edition, weekdays at 7:40 a.m.
Joe talks to people on the radio for a living. In addition to countless impressive human "gets" - he has talked to a lot of Muppets. Joe grew up in Philadelphia, has been on the area airwaves for more than 25 years and currently lives in Washington County, NY with his wife, Kelly, and their dog, Brady. And yes, he reads every single book.
