Last week in our Ideas Matter segment we learned about an exciting national program, Created Equal, which uses documentary films to encourage public conversations about the changing meanings of freedom and equality in America. This week, we learn about how one local organization is using these films to discuss these ideas in the Capital Region.
This Saturday at 2pm, the Schenectady Historical Society will present a screening of the film Freedom Riders - an inside look at a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights struggle, when a brave band of activists challenged segregation in the Deep South.
A discussion of the film will be led by Ibram X Kendi – the Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at the State University of New York University at Albany. He joins us along with Melissa Tacke, the Librarian/Archivist for the Schenectady County Historical Society and the Grems-Doolittle Library.
